Live Wedding Painting at Hotel Préalpina: Capturing a Symphony of Art and Performance in Chexbres

Painting Lake Geneva: A Dream Live Wedding Painting at Hôtel Prealpina, Chexbres

Every artist carries a bucket list of dream locations. Having grown up in Geneva and completed my university studies in Lausanne, Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) has always held a deeply sentimental place in my heart. During my first year as a live wedding painter, I was fortunate to capture stunning venues across French-speaking Switzerland—yet the iconic waters of Lake Geneva remained just out of reach.

That changed during my second season, all thanks to Bruna and Volkan.

When their inquiry landed in my inbox for a wedding at Hôtel Prealpina in Chexbres, I immediately searched the venue. To my utter delight, the terrace offered an uninterrupted, breathtaking panorama over the UNESCO-listed Lavaux vineyards and Lake Geneva. I knew instantly this was going to be a milestone performance.

Framing Art, Music, and Romance

Bruna and Volkan envisioned an atmosphere immersed in the arts. Alongside live painting, their celebration featured incredible dancers, live music, and dramatic lighting.

Bruna’s main request for her custom wedding painting was deeply artistic: she wanted to immortalize a romantic moment with her new husband against the backdrop of Lake Geneva, flanked symmetrically by their duo of live violinists—one on the left, one on the right.

The Creative Process: Adapting on the Wedding Day

Flexibility is essential in live event painting—no two weddings ever follow the exact same rhythm. On the day of the celebration, I arrived early at Hôtel Prealpina to set up my easel and establish my workspace. This quiet window before the guests arrive allows me to study the ambient light and lay down the foundational layers of the canvas: the soft contours of the Lavaux hills, the architecture of the terrace, and the serene blues of Lake Geneva stretching toward the horizon.

Capturing Moments in Real Time

Upon arrival, I learned that the dual violinists were scheduled to perform later in the evening during dinner rather than during the outdoor afternoon cocktail. Rather than letting a schedule shift interrupt the creative flow, I adapted my strategy. I dedicated the daytime hours to refining the sweeping landscape, capturing the warm natural light, and photographing Bruna and Volkan as they made their grand entrance to lock in their portraits, proportions, and attire for reference.

Once dinner began and the violinists took the stage, I stepped away from my canvas for a few moments to observe their performance. I photographed their exact poses, the way their white garments caught the evening lights, and their symmetrical placement in the room.

By the end of the night, the painting had come together beautifully on site—featuring the breathtaking scene over Lake Geneva, the couple’s portrait, and the core atmosphere of the celebration.

Final Atelier Touch-Ups: Perfection in the Details

Because the live music performance took place later in the evening under dramatic venue lighting, I brought the canvas back to my atelier to give it the dedicated time and detail it deserved.

Music, lake, and love — a Prealpina kiss in oil, set on the shores of Lake Geneva.

In the quiet of the studio, I carefully painted the duo of violinists into the composition, ensuring their instruments, fine posture, and soft highlights matched the rest of the artwork. Studio time allows me to varnish the piece, deepen shadows, polish delicate details on the wedding dress, and ensure every string, light reflection, and brushstroke feels complete. The result is a refined, museum-quality heirloom ready to be treasured for a lifetime.
