An Unforgettable Wedding Gift at Walensee: From Adrenaline to Art

If you are looking for a luxury wedding gift idea or a unique way to celebrate a brother or sister’s union, Victoria and Andreas’ story is for you. Victoria didn’t just want to give an object; she wanted to freeze a moment in time. By searching for a “live wedding painter Switzerland” on Google, she found exactly what she was looking for.

The destination: the breathtaking shores of Lake Walenstadt (Walensee).

The Unexpected: A Race Against Time in Murg

Being a live wedding painter requires quick thinking—and that day, I was put to the test! Upon arriving at my hotel in Murg, I found no reception, only a locked door requiring a digital code I hadn’t received yet.

Between my “rusty” high school German and the pre-wedding nerves, the phone call with the hotelier became a linguistic challenge. I eventually got in, but with a warning: “If you leave, you can’t get back in without the code.” I nodded, rushing to the venue.

The Venue: Sagibeiz, a Swiss Fjord Experience

The wedding took place at Sagibeiz in Murg, a truly one-of-a-kind venue. Imagine an old sawmill converted with exquisite taste, located right on the water’s edge. With its terrace overlooking the lake and its “Swiss fjord” vibes, it’s one of the most stunning wedding locations in Switzerland.

Between the raw wood architecture and the chill atmosphere of the “Sagilounge,” the vibe was both chic and soulful. Whether it’s a summer grill on the platform or a cozy winter fondue in the Sagistübli, this place breathes authenticity.

The “Little” Oversight and the Final Sprint

Once I was set up in front of this magnificent panorama, reality hit: I had left my canvas at the hotel. Back then, I traveled everywhere by public transport (a mix of bravery and masochism, I suppose!).

I ran back to the hotel, called the grumpy hotelier again, negotiated in a mix of English and German… and finally grabbed my canvas. I was exhausted and sweating, but the show had to go on. As an artist, you learn that the “live” in Live Painting also applies to the behind-the-scenes adrenaline!

Capturing the Moment: The First Kiss by the Lake

The couple arrived, looking radiant. At first, I saw a hint of confusion in their eyes—they didn’t know yet that I was their surprise wedding gift. It wasn’t until after the ceremony that they realized what their loved ones had organized.

Victoria and Andreas wanted them to choose the exact moment to be immortalized: the vows, the grand exit, or the first kiss? They chose the first kiss. Under the curious eyes of the guests, my brushstrokes brought this fleeting moment to life. By the end of the evening, the newlyweds got a first look at their painting before I took it back to my studio for the final touches.

Why a Live Painting is the perfect luxury wedding gift

Often, siblings or bridesmaids struggle to find a gift that stands out. Unlike a traditional guestbook or home appliances, a live wedding painting is both an entertainment experience during the cocktail hour and a timeless heirloom. Seeing the surprise on the groom’s face when he realized his sister had commissioned a piece of fine art just for them was as rewarding as the painting itself.

Planning a wedding at Sagibeiz? My artist’s perspective

If you’re considering this venue for your big day, here’s why it’s a dream for photography and live painting:

  • The Light: The reflection of the Churfirsten mountains in the Walensee creates a natural “softbox” effect that is incredible for portraits.
  • The Texture: The contrast between the industrial history of the old sawmill and the soft blue of the lake provides a rich palette for any artist or photographer.
  • The Space: With a capacity of up to 800 people, the venue still feels intimate in areas like the Sagisteg, perfect for an easel setup.

Want to offer a unique artistic experience for a loved one?

Whether you are the bride and groom or a guest looking for that “wow” gift, a live painting adds a touch of magic and a lifetime of memories to any wedding in Switzerland.
